Two drown in latest selfie deaths in Kunhar River
MANSEHRA: A woman drowned after falling into River Kunhar while attempting to take a selfie and her cousin also died trying to safe her in Balakot on Saturday, Geo News reported.
“The woman standing on a rock slipped into the River and her cousin jumped into the water to rescue her but both were swept away,” stated Arshad Khan, head of Balakot Police Station, while speaking to reporters. On August 16, an 11-year-old girl drowned after falling into River Kunhar in **rthern Pakistan while taking a selfie. Her parents also died trying to save her, officials said. Kunhar River flows through Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, at a hilly tourist spot in Beesian village, some 200 kilometres (120 miles) **rth of Islamabad. The deep, rocky and fast flowing River is popular for white-water rafting. So-called "selfie deaths" have surged with the global rise of smartphones. On July 5, Peruvian police recovered the body of a South Korean tourist under a waterfall in the Amazon jungle, days after he fell in while taking a photo of himself.
