While the Brazilian government denied any truth to his story, Ryan continued to defend it, and even appeared on the Today Show earlier in the week, telling Matt Lauer, "The guy pulled out his gun, he cocked it, put it to my forehead and said 'get down.' I was like (puts hands up) I put my hands up. I was like 'whatever.' He took our money, he took my wallet."
Things then took a turn for the worst when video footage from the morning in question surfaced and proved that Ryan was, in fact, lying. On Thursday, the athlete issued an official statement, apologizing and blaming the incident on a language barrier.
