**WSHERA: defence secretary Lieutenant General (retd) Mohammad Alam Khattak has relinquished the charge of his ****** on the completion of his two-year term.
The government had appointed him defence secretary on expiry of the contract of his predecessor Lt Gen (retd) Asif Yasin Malik in August 2014.Alam Khattak, who belongs to **wshera district, had previously served on key positions in the Pakistan Army.
He served as corps commander in Quetta. While heading the corps in Quetta, he visited various areas of Balochistan, especially the border areas and held talks with the Baloch chieftains. He tried to bring them in the political mainstream and eventually convinced them to take part in the electoral process
Alam Khattak earlier served as Inspector General Frontier Corps (FC), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. He also remained chief of logistics at the General Headquarters (GHQ).
