SC directs commissioner to submit report on Zulfiqarabad oil tankers terminal
KARACHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the commissioner of Karachi to submit a detailed report regarding completion of Zulfiqarabad oil tankers terminal at the next session of the case hearing scheduled for September.
The court was hearing a petition filed by Shugafta Bibi, a resident of Clifton Block 1, who pleaded with the Chief Justice of Pakistan to order the shifting of the oil tankers’ terminal from her locality. The woman had initially sent a letter to the CJP, which was later converted into a constitutional petition. The Advocate-General of Sindh, Zamir Ghumro, sought time to submit the report regarding completion of the Zulfiqarabad oil tankers terminal. The SC’s three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, observed that compliance of the court order had **t been made despite a passage of several years. The court recalled that the treatment plant case was also pending since 1992, but the government was still seeking time to implement the court orders. The court observed that oil tankers had been causing difficulties for the residents of the locality. The advocate-general of Sindh submitted that after the election of mayor and deputy mayor the KMC could file its report on the oil tankers terminal. The court, granting time, directed the commissioner of Karachi to submit a detailed report regarding completion of Zulfiqarabad oil tankers terminal.
