Says terrorists enemies of Constitution, judiciary, people, their way of life and national security; same people targeted Benazir, APS, Hazaras and Ismailis; civil and military leadership decides to form strict laws to curb terror; all points of NAP to be implemented without discrimination
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday said the government and the military are united to eliminate terrorism. He said the war against terrorism will be taken to its logical conclusion, maintaining that terror incidents like Quetta can**t deter the nation’s resolve in the fight against this menace. “We will move forward with full strength and completely eliminate terrorism from the country,” the prime minister said in his first appearance in the National Assembly following recovery from successful heart surgery. He said the country’s military and political leadership had also pledged to complete the National Action Plan (NAP) and the Operation Zarb-e-Azb. The prime minister said the Quetta incident saddened the whole nation but he maintained that every new grief had given a new vigour to them to fight against terrorism. He said intelligence institutions of the country were making all-out efforts to foil the designs of enemies. Nawaz pointed out that misguided elements had become enemies of the country and the nation was influenced by an ideology. “The same ideologyideology. “The same ideology has targeted Benazir Bhutto Shaheed, Ismaili community of Safora Goth, Hazara community in Balochistan, church in Peshawar and Army Public School and prominent people of the country,” the prime minister said. The premier said terrorists are enemies of the country’s Constitution, judiciary, the Pakistani people, their way of life and national security. “All the Pakistanis irrespective of their belonging to any province or community have been targets of these condemnable elements,” he said. Nawaz said they have to defeat the terrorist ideology because it is the enemy of the country. “There is complete planning behind the Quetta tragedy behind which an evil mind was active,” he said He said these people could **t see Pakistan making progress and peace in Balochistan and they wanted to damage peace and development in the country, adding that they would defeat these nefarious designs of the enemy. The prime minister said Pakistan raised voice against Indian atrocities in the held Kashmir at the international fora through an awareness campaign. “We can**t remain silent in these circumstances,” he said. The premier said development projects in the country, particularly China Pakistan Eco**mic Corridor, will bring prosperity and development in the country but the enemy could **t digest this prosperity and development. He said the security forces of the country were safeguarding its territorial boundaries in the best way and also showing excellent performance for maintaining law and order in the country. The prime minister said it was the mission of the government and the political and military leadership to make Pakistan safe for all segments of the society according to the vision of the founder of Pakistan. He said the people of the country, government, armed forces, police and national security institutions are united in the war against terrorism and will continue their efforts together till complete elimination of terrorism from the country. The prime minister said the country was much safe and stronger than previous years and the same was also vision of founder of the nation. The premier said all the institutions are carrying out their responsibilities excellently. He said on one hand, the armed forces of Pakistan were ensuring security, and on the other hand, the country's intelligence agencies were foiling hundreds of enemies' designs and plans which are aimed at destabilising and targeting the national institutions and people. Meanwhile, the civil and military leadership of the country decided to formulate comprehensive strategy based on “all out war” pattern to eliminate terrorism from the face of country in the wake of Quetta terror blast of Monday that killed at least 71 people including distinguished lawyers and media persons. It was also decided all the points of the NAP will be implemented without any discrimination. The twin-leadership started ****** of consultations on Wednesday that would continue today (Thursday). The provinces would also be taken into confidence about the step being mulled. For the purpose all chief ministers will be invited to the federal capital on Monday (August 15). The first brainstorming session of the ****** was held at the Prime Minister House Wednesday which was chaired by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. It was also attended by Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif, DG ISI Lieutenant General Rizwan Akhtar, DGMO Major General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, DG MI Major General Nadeem Zaki Manj, PS to COAS Major General Azhar Abbas, federal ministers Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Senator Ishaq Dar, Adviser to PM on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, National Security Adviser (NSA) Nasser Khan Janjua, Special Assistant to PM Tariq Fatemi, DG IB Aftab Sultan, Secretary to the PM Fawad Hasan Fawad and Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry. The high-level meeting reviewed the security situation in the country. Sources told The News later in the day that the NAP and process of its implementation were discussed by the meeting. Some improvements would be brought about in the NAP in accordance to the new developments. Fresh enactment of the Protection of Pakistan Act (POPA) was also deliberated that has already been lapsed. It is likely that it would be re-promulgated after consultations.
