Pakistan Cup hockey begins today
By our correspondent KARACHI: Pakistan Cup nine-a–side hockey tournament begins at the Abdul Sattar Edhi stadium on Sunday (today), with two matches to be played on the opening day, the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) official Naveed Alam told ‘The News’ on Saturday. The first match will be contested by National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) and Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) at 7:45pm, while Customs will take on PHF development squad (colors) in the second match. Gover**r Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan will be the chief guest of the opening ceremony. Eight teams are taking part in the event. Pakistan loses bid to host Asian Netball C’ship By our correspondent KARACHI: Pakistan on Saturday lost the bid it had filed for hosting the Asian Netball Championship, the country’s netball authorities said. It was Singapore that won the bid for staging the continental event by securing seven votes. Pakistan claimed four, while Sri Lanka got two votes. The decision was taken at the general council meeting of theAsian Netball Federation (ANF) in Thailand on Friday. Pakistan Netball Federation’s (PNF) president Mudassir Arain also attended the meeting. Singapore will host the continental affair in 2018. The Asian Youth Netball Championship was allotted to Korea NetballAssociation (KNA). The event will be held from May 15, 2017. Each country was allotted the Level-1 coaching and umpiring courses. Contador wins Tour of Burgos title QUINTANAR DE LA SIERRA, Spain: Alberto Contador secured the Tour of Burgos title on Saturday after a second-place finish on the fifth and final stage in the mountains in **rthern Spain.
