NA debate needed to define indecent ads
ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly was Friday informed that the Council of Complaints of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) takes action on complaints against indecent programmes or advertisements on private television channels.
Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Mohsin Ranjha was responding to a calling attention **tice about indecent advertisements on private television channels. Asiya Naz Ta**li raised the issue in the House. Mohsin Ranjha also proposed that a debate could be conducted in the National Assembly to define the word ‘indecent’ with regard to advertisements and programmes on private television channels. Asiya Naz Ta**li was of view that some television channels were still showing indecent advertisements despite strict monitoring system. Ranjha, however, said Pemra’s Council of Complaints and Pakistan Advertising Society take **tice on such advertisements. He said there was ban on any indecent advertisement or programme under Section 20 of Pemra Ordinance. He said people had different definitions of decent and indecent and presently there was a specific law to define the word ‘indecent’. He said such issue could be debated on the floor of the House.
