High treason case sought against seeking army intervention
PFUJ’s ex-president Afzal Butt files petition with SC
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) was requested on Friday to direct the Interior Ministry to initiate a High treason case under Article 6 of the Constitution under the High treason Punishment Act 1973 against three, including Muhammad Kamran, President of Move on Pakistan, for displaying posters in 13 cities, asking the army chief General over as saviour. Former President of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalist (PFUJ) Afzal Butt filed a petition under Article 184 (3) of the Constitution through Muhammad Ikram Chaudhry, praying for directing the federal government to initiate High treason case against Muhammad Kamran, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed (MNA) and Dr Danish, anchor Channel 92, Karachi. The petitioner has made Federation of Pakistan through the Ministry of Law and Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Federal Interior Ministry through secretary interior, Muhammad Kamran, President of Move on Pakistan, Faisalabad, Sheikh Rashid Ahmad MNA, Dr Danish and Zahid Farooq Malik, Editor, Metro Watch, Islamabad, as respondents. The petitioner submitted that Pakistan was still suffering the adverse effects of dictators’ polices and all the department of national life, political, eco**mic, social and law and order are in unhealthy condition. He said that during last year and 2016 certain political and social elements have been trying to spread the rumors of military rule in Pakistan and have been engaged in using media and other forums for instigating, abetting and conspiring for weakening the legal and constitutional process in Pakistan and indicating as if Armed Forces were about to take over the reign of power to rule by once again throwing away the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan 1973. Afzal Butt alleged that the campaign has geared up by Muhammad Kamran, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, Dr. Danish and many others through media and affixing posters asking General Raheel Sharif to take over as saviour, adding that the army chief has already an**unced publicly his retirement on time and has a laudable personal background. He further claimed that acts of abetting and conspiring of respondents are **t only causing damage to legal order but also to abet the abrogation of Constitution attracting Article 5 and 6 of the Constitution which he said ultimately will demolish the judiciary already under attack in Pakistan from different sections of the society and institutions. During last year or so there was a regular campaign by Muhammad Kamran, Sheikh Rashid and Dr Danish specially and many others generally through press statements/ TV programmes, through posters with and without photos of army Chief General Raheel Sharif, asking and indicating him to take over the regime as he was the only hope for the nation, the petitioner contended. He said that intentions of respondents and others were to throw away the constitutional order by subverting/ abrogating the Constitution and pave way for a**ther dictatorial rule instead of rule of law and Constitution The petitioner said that Muhamamd Kamran, Sheikh Rashid and Dr Danish have ulterior motive to gain political power and other benefits as done in different constitutional regime periods and **t learnt any lesson to aid and assist the cause of constitutional rule. Afzal Butt expressed that the last military ruler played hell with the institutions and next paras show his unconstitutional role whereas Dr Danish was fined by the Pemra for propping invitation to the army for military rule violating the law and Constitution of Pakistan. He termed the recent campaign unconstitutional and against the integrity and solidarity of Pakistan’s Constitution and political structure also.
