enters the power corridors of United Kingdom LAHORE: The 52-year old new British Foreign Secretary, Boris Johnson, is a journalist who had started his professional career with the Daily Times, later becoming the Brussels Correspondent of Daily Telegraph and then eventually getting elevated to the slot of Daily Spectator’s Editor in 1999. Under Johnson's editorship between 1999 and 2005, the circulation of The Daily Spectator had grown by over 10 per cent to 62,000 and it began to yield a profit. Having served as Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016 and the President of the Oxford University Students Union in 1986, Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson, was born to English parents in New York in 1June 964. With a combination of Muslims, Jews, and Christians as great-grandparents, Johnson’s second wife, Barrister Marina Wheeler, is the daughter of journalist and British broadcaster Sir Charles Wheeler and a Sikh woman Dip Singh. His stepmother, Jenny, the second wife of his father Stanley, is the stepdaughter of Teddy Steff, the former chairman of Marks & Spencer. His father Stanley Johnson was the grandson of the Turkish journalist Ali Kemal on the paternal side, while on his maternal side he was of mixed English and French descent and was a distant descendant of King George II of Britain. During his first term as mayor, Johnson had banned ******* consumption on public transport. Finding it difficult to meet his life expenses with the Mayoral salary of £140,000 per annum, he had agreed to continue writing his “Daily Telegraph” column alongside his Mayoral position, thus earning him a further £250,000 a year.
