JI warns of protest over Customs Act extension

TIMERGARA: The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Member National Assembly(MNA) from Lower Dir Sahibzada Yaqoob Khan on Monday warned of launching a protest movement in Malakand division if the federal government didn’t withdraw the Customs Act from Malakand.

Talking to reporters here, he said that political parties had rejected the decision. He said the people of Malakand division had been affected by militancy, military offensives, earthquakes and floods.

The MNA said the government should have an**unced a special package for the people of Malakand division instead of rubbing salt into their wounds by extending the act. The JI leader said several all-party conferences held on the issue had rejected the government’s decision but their voices were falling on deaf ears. He asked the president and the prime minister of Pakistan to immediately an**unce the withdrawal of the Customs Act so that the people could heave a sigh of relief.
