Reiterates accountability of public ******holders



PESHAWAR: chief minister Pervez Khattak on Monday said his government was making efforts to ensure good governance and make public ******-holders accountable.

He said this while presiding over two different meetings of Select Committees on the Ehtesab Commission and Prevention of Conflict of Interest in the provincial assembly here, said an official handout.

Among others Deputy Speaker Provincial Assembly Dr Mehr Taj Roghani, minister for Law Imtiaz Shahid Qureshi, minister Public Health Engineering Shah Farman, Special Assistant to chief minister on Information and Public Relations Mushtaq Ghani, Member Provincial Assemblies Sardar Hussain Babak, Muhammad Ali Shah Bacha, advocate general, secretary law, secretary establishment and principal secretary to chief minister attended the meeting.

The meetings of both committees were held to give final touches to the rules and regulations as well as timeframe to establish the Ehtesab Commission. The meeting also discussed the regulatory framework and the mode of recruitment in this connection.

It was decided the director general (DG) would have execution and operational functions. The commission would have to be apolitical in all its procedural and operational functions. The chief minister asked the participants to remove the lacunas in the procedure and rules and regulations.

The age limit for the position of DG should be between 45 to 65 years. However, in the absence of the DG an ******r amongst senior members of the Directorate General will be selected to run the official business, said the official statement.

The commission will probe up to Rs50 million corruption cases. However, it will also take all cases of corruption for the evaluation of its nature, said the handout, adding that corruption cases of petty nature would be transferred to Anti-Corruption Department.

The chief minister also formed a special committee comprising Law minister Imtiaz Shahid, MPA Muhammad Ali Shah, secretary establishment and advocate general to prepare final recommendations within 15 days in this regard.

Regarding the Conflict of Interest Law, the chief minister said the law should ensure that **body including politicians and government officials could draw benefit from it.

He added there should be rule of law and the misuse of resources and power should stop for personal gains.The chief minister asked the committee members to make recommendations as his government wanted to use collective wisdom for the benefit of the province and its people.
