MQM complains about harassment of workers

KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement has demanded from Prime Minister Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Khan, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif and Corps Commander Karachi Lt-Gen Naveed Mukhtar to take **tice of what it called “unconstitutional steps” against them.

Addressing a press conference at the Khursheed Memorial Hall on Tuesday, Dr Farooq Sattar, senior deputy convener of the party’s Coordination Committee, said the MQM and its Coordination Committee “totally rejects each and every word” in the statement issued by the Rangers spokesman as baseless. He said ** call had been made to the business community.

He demanded of the army chief and the corps commander to set up an army tribunal and “we are ready to present ourselves before the tribunal”.

Sattar said Gulistan-e-Jauhar’s organiser had been arrested though his name was **t mentioned in any FIR or joint investigation team.

The MQM leader demanded the lifting of the media ban on his party chief, Altaf Hussain. He said the success of Operartion Zarb-e-Azb was being slowly shadowed by vengeance against the MQM because the entire time was being wasted in making videos and JITs, and as a result terror organisations like Daesh and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan were getting space.

He added that the MQM was the largest party in Karachi and the biggest stakeholder, but despite that it was **t taken into confidence when decisions were made about the city. “Our genuine complaints are **t being heard and problems are **t resolved.”

Sattar said the MQM had been pushed to the wall in such a manner that an an**unced ban had been imposed on all its social welfare activities. He said that in the current situation, people were getting frustrated and unrest was spreading among them.

He said that one after the other, human rights of citizens were being usurped, and injustices and atrocities were being committed against them.

The MQM lawmaker said his party had ** intention to hold the press conference but reality had to be told to the masses. He alleged that MQM workers were being warned to join the “Kamalo Group”. He said the union in the KWSB supporting the MQM was being harassed.
