Ruet Committee an**unces Eid after brief altercation

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Mufti Muneebur Rehman had a brief altercation with reporters as the Committee members gathered here to collect evidence about the Shawwal moon-sighting.

TV footage showed Mufti Muneeb switching off the microphone of a private news channel after a reporter said that an Auqaf Department official had informed reporters that the central Committee had received at least 18 testimonies from Lahore, Lower Dir, Gujranwala, Multan, Shawal, Sanghar and Dera Bugti.

Hearing this, Mufti Muneeb told reporters that they were misleading the masses by reporting baseless information, as the Committee had **t received any testimony from anywhere.

He further said that ** Auqaf Department official was authorized to step into the committee’s domain.

“We will an**unce our decision in line with the dictates of Shariah,” Mufti Muneeb said and left the room.

However, Mufti Muneeb later chaired the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee and an**unced the sighting of the Shawwal moon after collecting evidence.
