Budget expected to post surplus of Rs103.507 million
Karachi The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation administrator exercising the powers of the KMC Council on Monday approved a budget of Rs26,789.616 million for the authority for the fiscal year 2016-17. The expected revenue of the budget is estimated at Rs26,789.616 million and the expenditures at Rs26,686.109 million – a surplus of Rs103.507 million. Metropolitan commissioner Samiuddin Siddiqui, budget director Mehmood Baig and director council Ghufran Ahmed were also present when the administrator Laeeq Ahmed approved the budget. The current receipts are estimated to be Rs14.48 billion and the capital receipt at Rs1.84 billion along with Rs6.47 billion as funds for the provincial & district annual development programmes. Similarly, the expenditure side shows an establishment expenditure of Rs7.42 million, contingent at Rs2.36 billion and repair and maintenance coming to Rs270.57 million. For development projects, Rs6.25 billion have been reserved along fund from the provincial and district ADPs coming to Rs6.47 billion. Other allocations include Rs6.47 billion for the provincial and district ADPs, Rs3.60 billion for medical and health services, Rs3.51 billion for engineering, Rs2.67 billion for municipal services, and Rs2.46 billion for debt servicing, pension fund & other miscellaneous expenditure. A sum of Rs816.60 million has been reserved for parks and horticulture, Rs795.38 million for the secretariat expenditures, Rs762.08 million for the revenue department, Rs628.47 million for culture, sports and recreation, Rs526.94 million for transport and communication, Rs190.76 million for finance and accounts, Rs172.86 million for information tech**logy, Rs124.82 million for law and order and Rs51.31 million for enterprise and investment promotion. The KMC is expected to receive a of Rs9.40 billion grant from the government in the next fiscal year with the provincial and district ADPs of Rs6.47 billion. In the next fiscal year, the KMC will start working on 20 development projects whereas 12 other projects will be carried out under the district and provincial ADP allocations. The main projects include the construction of a parking plaza at Shahabuddin Market in Saddar at a cost of Rs350million, improvement of roads, footpaths, and bridges with Rs350 million and special development projects costing Rs300 million. A sum of Rs250 million each has been allocated for the upgrading and the construction of boundary walls around graveyards, development works in Orangi Cottage Industrial Area and the construction and improvement of roads. The ADP projects include upgrading of fire services for high-rise buildings at a cost of Rs499 million, the construction of a flyover at Korangi Crossing with Rs223.694 million, and the construction of an underpass at the Golimar intersection of Nazimabad costing Rs205.400 million. The widening and improvement of Hawkesbay Road will be carried out with Rs150 million and the repair of National Highway from the Jinnah Terminal flyover to the Quaidabad flyover will cost Rs125 million. أكثر... |
