Rs73.5 bn budget tabled in AJK Legislative Assembly

MIRPUR: The AJK government on Friday unveiled Rs 73.50 billion budget for fiscal year 2016-17 in the Legislative Assembly with formal approval by the House.

The budget contained Rs 12 billion for development expenditures, AJK Finance Minister Chaudhry Latif Akbar said in his budget speech. The budget carried an increase of Rs 500 million in the development funds as compared to the last year, the minister underlined.

Latif said it was the last annual budget presented by the incumbent PPP-led government, which was going to finish its five-year term next month.

He claimed that the budget was people-friendly since the welfare of the poor and downtrodden besides the common man had been focused.

Elaborating salient features, he said the budget contained the estimate of the expenditures at Rs 61.50 billion and Rs 43.70 billion as income.

The estimated income resources included Rs 18.85 billion from the AJK resources and Rs 24.85 billion from the taxes and other due share in federal taxes, including
funds, grant and water-use charges.
