افتراضي Loadshedding continues during Sehr, Iftar

LAHORE: With the onset of the holy month of Ramazan, Wapda has started unan**unced Loadshedding all over the country.

Loadshedding continued during Sehar, Iftar and Taraveeh timings. People who were fasting took to the streets in various cities and towns and held protest demonstrations against the long Loadshedding hours, unan**unced outages, low gas pressure and lack of supply of potable water to houses.

Due to the severe heat, at least three people, including a woman, died in different incidents and dozens of others fell unconscious. In Sheikhupura, Nankana, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Faisalabad, Okara, Sahiwal, Kamalia and other cities, people protested against unan**unced loadshedding. In Khanqa Dogran, the faithful held a demonstration outside a mosque against outages.

According to sources, the electricity shortfall has reached 5,000 megawatts in the country. Lesco authorities claimed that feeders of industrial units would be closed to ensure uninterrupted power supply during Sehar, Iftar and Taraveeh timings.

In Nehal Chand Street, Chhatti Gali and other areas of Sialkot city, electricity remained suspended from Fajar prayers till Asr prayers on the first day of Ramazan. People strongly protested against over 10 hours loadshedding.

In Basti of Saddar Gogera, 70 years old Akhtar, in Sarai Alamgir area of Multan district, Allah Wasaya, and Hameeda Bibi of Chak 57-GB died due to severe heat. Dozens of people fell unconscious due to severe weather conditions in Allahbad, Gujranwala, Wazirabad, Gujrat and Faisalabad.

In city areas, Loadshedding period exceeded 16 hours while in rural areas 19 hours Loadshedding was carried out by the authorities. People in various cities had to suffer due to very low gas pressure during Sehar, Iftar and Taraveeh timing. Cooking food became hard for them, complained people. Sui **rthern Gas Pipeline Limited senior engineer Rana Imtiaz told Jang reporter that inspection teams were being sent to the regions facing gas low pressure.
