افتراضي Shaukat Khanum Hospital should also be held accountable: Asif

Says PM running two welfare institutions with own resources

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Wednesday said the PTI Chairman Imran Khan who himself owned an offshore company was levelling baseless allegations against others.

Taking part in the debate on the PanamaLeaks in the National Assembly, Asif said Imran had **t declared an offshore company in his assets.

“Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s name was **t mentioned in the Panama Papers but Imran Khan was a beneficiary of an offshore company,” he said.

Asif said if the PM could present himself for accountability then the Shaukat Khanum Cancer Hospital should also be held accountable. He said the Shaukat Khanum cancer Hospital was a respectable institution operating on donations, charity and Zakat.

He said it was in everyone’s interest that the cancer Hospital should be managed efficiently but Imran Khan had caused much harm to the institution. The minister said Parliament was the proper forum for solution of all problems, as it represented 200 million people of the country.

“There are many names that were found in Panama papers but the focus is only on politicians,” he said.

He said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was also running two welfare institutions — Sharif Complex and Ittefaq Hospital — from his own resources while Imran Khan was running it through charity and donation.

Meanwhile, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Pervaiz Rashid said the opposition after expressing their views in the House about PanamaLeaks should also listen to the response of the treasury benches.

Speaking in the National Assembly on a point of order, the minister said the prime minister and members of the treasury benches remained in the House to listen to the opposition on May 16 but they walked out of the House.

The minister thanked the Leader of the Opposition Syed Khursheed Shah for coming to the House and clarifying his position about their boycott or walkout from the House on May 16.

He said whenever the prime minister came to the House it was full to its capacity adding that **t only the House, but also all the visitors galleries were full to their capacity as people loved Nawaz Sharif.

The minister told the House that the PTV was directly telecasting the House proceedings while clean feed was also being given to other channels.

”It is also on record that when we were in the opposition ** speech of our leader of the opposition was aired directly,” Pervaiz said.
