ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on Thursday reserved its judgment on allowing the Wapda to increase Rs 1.50 per unit tariff to settle the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa net hydel profit (NHP) dues.
The proceedings were chaired by Nepra Chairman Brig (R) Tariq Saddozai. Wapda officials apprised that the authority had to pay Rs 51 billion to KP and new tariff was needed to clear the outstanding dues. An amount of Rs 25 billion had to pay to KP in the current year while Rs 15 billion would be given next year, the officials said. The Wapda officials maintained that they had been instructed by the federal government to raise Rs 25 billion as loan from banks and add Rs 1.875 billion as mark-up before charging consumers for the first instalment during
the current year. They said that on the directive of the CCI, the petition had been filed to raise the tariff to clear the KP dues. The average tariff would be increased by 55 paisas, they said.
