Loadshedding affects furniture factories in Upper Dir
Owners of furniture factories said that electricity remained suspended for two to three hours and is restored for 20 to 30 minutes only. They say that Wapda authorities have **t fixed any schedule for loadshedding, which is why they can**t complete orders of their customers on time. Najiullah, alias Kaka Ji, owner of a showroom, said that furniture was the biggest industry in Upper Dir as about 15,000 people are attached to it. Khalid Khan, a carpenter by profession, said that he had established his business after much hard work for the last 25 years. He said that 20 to 25 craftsmen were working with him at his shops on daily wage basis and a few of them on monthly salaries. However, he said their job has become a loss-making business these days due to loadshedding. A**ther carpenter, Pir Zada, said that a few of their colleagues have ended their occupation as carpenters and he is also thinking about abandoning the business as he is **t able to complete orders on time. Similarly, other businesses including tailoring, knife making, mechanics and cold drinks have also been affected by the power cuts, especially in daytime. Attiqur Rehman, a knife maker, said that his business has badly suffered because he can hardly make three to four knives daily, which is **t e**ugh to earn livelihood for his family. Muhammad Ali, a shopkeeper, complained that authorities did **t inform the locals about any schedule for the power suspension. The residents of Dir, the district headquarters of Upper Dir, also complained that the Wapda authorities have **t given them any relaxation in Loadshedding duration, as is given to headquarters of other districts, including Timergara, Mingora, Mardan, Buner and others.
