Miracle electronics material could help create clean water
![]() ![]() ![]() A material said to be around 1 million times thinner than paper could one day help us create clean water. Graphene, a layer of graphite one atom thick, has been hailed as a miracle material with potential uses in electronics and energy generation, but researchers at Monash University and the University of Kentucky have found a way it can be used as a hyper-efficient water filter. Researcher Mainak Majumder from Monash University told Mashable Australia he has been working with graphene for almost seven years. As well as the water filter project, the team have also developed "super sand," a product containing graphene that could help mop up oil spills, as well as investigating the use of the material in super capacitors for energy storage.
