MUMBAI: Maharashtra government is expected to tell Bombay High Court on Friday the date on which it will implement the recommendations of a panel to reduce the weight of school bags.. On August 21 a bench of Justice V M Kanade and Justice Shalini Phansalkar-Joshi said the State government must issue directive to schools to comply with the recommendation otherwise they will remain only on paper.The court heard a public interest litigation by Swati Patil highlighting the problems faced by students. The government's advocate Anjali Helekar had sought time to inform the court. The bench then said the government must inform the outer limit within which they will be implemented. "It is a very serious matter. It is **t something that has to be discussed and forgotten," said Justice Kanade. The bench also said once the State government issues the directive to schools pointing out that the recommendations have to be complied with from a particular date, it will pass necessary orders.
