The Egyptian accountant, who worked for the Ruler’s Court, was tasked with looking into a dispute between a Lebanese engineering firm owner and a UAE national who sponsored his company. Dubai Court of First Instance heard the man was arrested on March 3 for asking and accepting a bribe from the Lebanese man, 59. The auditor – who denies the charges – was often commissioned by Dubai Courts or Public Prosecution to look into Financial cases. The dispute centred around the Lebanese investor’s decision to sell off his shares in the firm. The Emirati sponsor filed a criminal complaint against him. The Lebanese man told prosecutors the auditor contacted him and said he could swing the investigation in his favour – for the right price. The man said: “He asked to meet in January in a cafe and told me that the report might take two or three years.” He said he was asked for Dhs2.5 million to “speed up the report” and to write it in his favour. The man phoned the authorities and state security ******rs told him to continue to negotiate. It is claimed the auditor later agreed to accept Dhs2 million. ******rs gave Dhs 300,000 to the investor and fitted him with a wire. On March 3 the pair met in Al Mamzar and state security moved for the arrest.
