Swallowable Sensor Measures Gases Inside Gut
![]() Researchers at*RMIT University and Monash University in Australia have developed a **vel Swallowable Sensor capable of measuring intestinal gases. The potential for this tech**logy is still unk**wn, as the microbiome within the gut is mostly unexplored. The variety of bacteria Inside all of us is staggering, having widespread implications for human health. The new system may provide a way of identifying the presence of different microbes as biomarkers for specific diseases. The new capsule includes a gas sensor, microelectronics, and a radio transmission system that sends out readings to a external receiver such as a smartphone. The tech**logy has been tested in animals, proving itself safe and effective in a proof-of-concept study. The capsules were able to continuously sample intestinal Gases while beaming results in real-time to a receiving radio outside the body.
