The Al-Shawqiyyah branch municipality in Makkah has closed down Five big restaurants for a number of health violations including the use of expired food ingredients. The municipality deployed a number of inspection teams to make surprise raids on food and trading establishments to ensure they were abiding by health and safety rules. The inspection tours included eateries, fast-food restaurants, kitchens and bakeries. The municipality's chairman Mamdouh Bin Mohammed Iraqi said large quantities of expired food and rotten meat were confiscated and destroyed.
