Knives Out director confirms whether Chris Evans will return for sequel

Knives Out‘s Rian Johnson has revealed that Chris Evans probably won’t show up in the film’s eagerly anticipated follow-up.

Chatting with The Hollywood Reporter, the writer-director said fans should expect the sequel to be set in a “whole new location” and boast a “whole new cast” – which means the Marvel star won’t be donning that chunky knit jumper again.

“Not in my movie,” Johnson laughed. “But just in life? Probably. He lives in Boston, so…”

It’s been known for quite some time that the next instalment in the developing Knives Out series will centre on another of Daniel Craig’s Benoit Blanc cases.

In the original, the detective is hired to investigate the Thrombeys, a wealthy family that finds itself suspected of murder when the clan patriarch (played by Christopher Plummer) winds up dead on his 85th birthday.

Evans plays wise-cracking, spoilt rich boy Hugh ‘Ransom’ Thrombey, son of Jamie Lee Curtis and Don Johnson’s characters.

Also starring Katherine Langford, Lakeith Stanfield, Toni Collette, Michael Shannon and Ana de Armas, the movie proved popular with critics and cinema-goers alike.

Having earned a 97% fresh rating on review aggregate website Rotten Tomatoes and $307 million (آ£239m) at the worldwide box office, there’s no wonder a second movie was greenlit.

“Think of it just like another Hercule Poirot novel from Agatha Christie,” the filmmaker explained.

Knives Out is out in the UK on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K on 30 March.
