TV star Suranne Jones to open Southport Flower Show
</p> The Southport Flower Show will be opened by ex-Coronation Street actress Suranne Jones Suranne, 31, starred in recent ITV drama Unforgiven as well as BBC1â??s Five Days, but saw her career blossom playing Karen McDonald in Corrie. The English rose, whose latest project is a BBC drama called Single Father co-starring David Tennant to be broadcast in the autumn, will welcome thousands of gardening enthusiasts to Southportâ??s 81st annual event on Thursday. She said: â??I am hugely excited about coming to Southport. Itâ??s been one of my favourite places since I was a child and I have always had a great time there. â??I am really interested in gardens and I hope to grow old in a big house with a big garden. Iâ??m eager to get some top tips from the experts as well as seeing all the wonderful Show gardens. There is so much happening at the Show this year; it sounds like my perfect day out.â?* The Show holds its Ladies Day on August 20 with guests including Corrie stars Antony Cotton and Sue Cleaver, who play Sean Tully and Eileen Grimshaw. The Show also features a brand new food village while a fashion Show and a book festival are among the other attractions. Describing herself as a â??keen to learn gardenerâ??, Suranne is hoping to be able to get some tips from celebrity gardeners, and Southport Flower Show regulars, Diarmuid Gavin and David Bellamy. She said: â??I donâ??t have the luxury of a large garden where I live, so Iâ??ll be asking the experts how I can give my home a bit of life. Iâ??m sure the knowledgeable, friendly people visiting and exhibiting at the Show will be able to give me some good advice on how to make the most of the space I have.â?* Celebrity botanist David Bellamy, 77, will host a competition for the best school garden and still remembers the first time he opened the show. He said: â??I did my best to open the Show on that day, and with a slip of the tongue I declared â??The Stockport Flower Showâ?? well and truly open. I think everyone thought I had done it on purpose.â?* David Jackson, Chief Executive at Southport Flower Show, said: â??Suranne is one of the UKâ??s brightest stars and weâ??re sure sheâ??ll enjoy coming for a great day out. Weâ??re looking forward to welcoming her.
