I’m wondering if anyone has any thoughts or suggestions on Feeding the older poor doer horse.. Current situation I have a 16.3hh WBxTB mare who is 25, I rescued her from a bad situation last year. She was very underweight then and had to have two teeth removed due to lack of dental care for the past couple of years certainly. She’s had bloods done and she was borderline Cushings at 27.1, other than this she has one Bute a day for osteoarthritis is her hocks. She’s quiet a fussy mare and won’t eat most types of hay, unless it’s meadow and if that’s not available I offer her haylage ad lib. She’s regularly wormed and recently had her teeth done. She’s fed 1.5k veteran vitality and Saracen Veteran Cubes 1kg a day. Can anyone suggest anything else I could try or add in? She’s approx 500kg but needs some extra weight. She’s lost all her topline however at 25 I don’t expect her to look like she did as a 10yo. She’s virtually retired and lives out 24/7 with field shelter access. Any help or suggestions would be much apprieciated!
