So I may be taking on a twenty something pony. She?s lived in the paddock next door for some time so already ?knows? mine. The trouble is I have a Ginger Welsh mare who can be very antisocial and protective over my gelding. When I tried to add a young pony to the mix she spent hours either guarding him or just being evil to the pony and chasing it. It was very stressful for them both I?m sure. This other pony had never been in with others so I can?t say for sure my mare was at fault. I also have a mini who loves everyone so I can put them in adjoining fields for a while and him in with the new one, but given that?s already happened for some time is it needed?I did wonder whether to put the new one in with my mare first so they can make friends, without the gelding in the mix, but not sure how my mare will settle being separate from him. Wwyd?
