St. Jude Medical, **w a part of Abbott, is making available in Europe its*Proclaim DRG Neurostimulation System. The implant features*4-ports and 16-channels to help control chronic neuropathic pain by electrically stimulating the dorsal root ganglion (DRG), a body of neurons responsible for managing pain signals moving up the spine. Of **te, St. Jude so far is the only firm offering a DRG stimulator for pain management.

The Proclaim DRG is programmed by a physician wirelessly using an iPad tablet, while the patient gets an iPod touch to tune the therapy depending on the pain experienced. It does **t require recharging thanks to a large battery sufficient to last for the life of the device, and the software inside it is upgradeable as new versions come out. Patients will still be able to receive MRI scans, as long as a few precautions are taken at the time of the exams.
