BANNU: A Jirga of the Bakakhel tribal elders on Monday opposed the reported plan to include the Shawal tehsil of **rth Waziristan in South Waziristan. The opposition was voiced during a grand jirga of the Bakakhel tribe elders held with Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Transport Malik Shah Muhammad Khan in the chair.
Addressing the Jirga, Shah Muhammad Khan said that a suggestion was made recently to include the Shawal tehsil of **rth Waziristan in South Waziristan. He said that Shawal was mostly inhabited by the Bakakhel tribe and had been part of **rth Waziristan since long. He said that Shawal was a far-off mountai**us area and it was covered with dense forests.
The elder said Shawal lacked roads, hospitals, educational institutions and other facilities. He said the area was underdeveloped and the tribal people expected the armed forces and government to carry out development work.
The elder said most of the tribesmen had moved to Bannu and other parts of the country after the launch of the military operation against the militants. Shah Muhammad said the tribal people would **t accept the inclusion of Shawal in South Waziristan.
He said the tribesmen would hold meetings with top military officials to persuade them to reverse the decision.
