California lawmakers on Thursday approved a historic piece of legislation that will raise the minimum wage from $10 to $15 per hour over the next six years, ushering the state to the forefront of a national movement to lift the pay floor. The measure is **w headed to Gov. Jerry Brown, who is expected to sign it into law on Monday, according to a release.

The first of many incremental increases is slated for Jan. 1, when the current state-wide minimum wage is bumped up to $10.50

Legislators and labor unions hammered out a deal on March 26 to approve the plan, according to the Los Angeles Times.
