The Minister of the Interior asks the regent of North Tapanuli for data on post-disaster damaged homes

Jakarta – Minister of Internal Affairs (Mendagri) Muhammad Tito Karnavian has asked the regent of North Tapanuli, Jonius Taripar Parsaoran Hutabarat, to re-register damaged housing to speed up recovery after disaster. Tito emphasized that data collection should be carried out by name by address for lightly damaged, moderately damaged, heavily damaged and lost houses. According to him, this data will be the basis for the government to determine the next steps for dealing with it. “The government is working fast under Mr. Prabowo’s orders. We are all moving, TNI, Polri, BNPB, Basarnas, regional governments, everyone is working. And actually we are still in a state of emergency,” said Tito, in a written statement, Sunday (21/12/2025). PAGE TO CONTINUE CONTENT He made this statement during the groundbreaking event (laying the first stone) for the construction of 103 houses for disaster victims in North Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra, on Sunday (21/12/2025). Based on observations in the field, Tito assessed that the post-disaster recovery process in North Tapanuli Regency is generally progressing rapidly. A number of road accesses that were previously closed are now open again, as is the electricity system which is starting to be restored. Tito explained that disasters in the area were dominated by landslides. This condition caused many houses to be damaged to the point of being lost and caused casualties. That is why he asked for certainty about the summary of the latest data so that handling can be carried out optimally. “Well, the damage is light and moderate. I really ask the regent to immediately summarize it by name by address, names and so on. So that there are no mistakes. Later, to summarize it, it will be handed over to the province,” he added. Tito explained that people whose houses are slightly to moderately damaged will be offered assistance with renovation costs. It is expected that this step will speed up the recovery process while reducing the crowding at refugee camps. “Well, for houses that are heavy and missing, the government will fully support them. Will they be built in that place for construction? If they are considered vulnerable, they will be relocated,” he explained. In accordance with President Prabowo’s directive, Tito continued, the resettlement will use land owned by the government, both central, regional and state-owned enterprises (BUMN). He ensured that the recovery process is carried out as quickly as possible to help communities affected by the disaster. Tito also appreciated the support of various parties, including the Indonesian Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation, to accelerate recovery through the construction of permanent housing in a number of areas.
