Kute Reje Village, Central Aceh lost to flooding, houses razed to the ground

Jakarta – Kute Reje Village, Linge District, Central Aceh, was lost to a flash flood at the end of last November. Residents’ houses were razed to the ground and some were not left. The houses there are generally of wooden construction. Flooding with logs washed away residents’ homes. The village now has only the ruins of destroyed houses left. PAGE TO CONTINUE “It is worse than what is said,” said Central Aceh Regent Haili Yoga as reported by detikSumut, Monday (22/12/2025). Apart from houses, rice fields that had entered the harvest period were also lost, buried under landslide material and timber. Haili said that the entire community of Kute Reje Village is currently evacuating to Delung Village, Jamat Village. In the Jamat settlement, there are five villages in a serious condition affected by floods. Haili visited several villages there and spent the night in Delung Village. During his visit, Haili brought a generator to provide light to the refugees. The refugees are said to be living in makeshift shelters on the ground, with canvas walls and very limited amenities. Apart from limited housing, the need for food and medicine is urgent as a number of refugees begin to experience health problems due to cold weather and unsuitable environmental conditions. “We are here to ensure that the community is not alone. The government will help with food needs, health services and the construction of temporary housing. In the future, we will also prepare resettlement to safer permanent housing,” said the former acting regent of Bener Meriah. Read more here. (fca/fca)
