‘Fake cola’ seller arrested on citizen’s complaint

VEHARI: Sale of fake cola is on the rise in the district. Recently, the food inspector has sealed two illegal beverage factories in Burewala allegedly being run by correspondents of some Urdu newspapers. Last week, Rana Taimoor of People’s Colony purchased a one-litre cola bottle of a branded company from a shop at the general bus stand and found a dead lizard in it. He said that when he complained about it to the shop owner, he allegedly got furious and started quarrelling with him. He said that he called police, who reached the spot and arrested the accused shopkeeper. The shop owner is reportedly a correspondent of an Urdu newspaper. The police registered a case against him on the complaint of the food inspector. The police reportedly kept the accused in detention for eight hours. Later, dozens of journalists reached the police station and forced the police to release the accused. To it, the police allegedly released the accused shop owner. Meanwhile, talking to newsmen, the accused shop owner claimed that he was in**cent. He said that he purchased cola bottles from a wholesale dealer on Club Road and he was ready to pinpoint him but the police were allegedly **t ready to listen to his point of view.
When contacted, the food inspector said that the accused shop owner from whom the bottle was recovered was responsible and **w it was the duty of the police to investigate other facts. The wholesale dealer, who is also a journalist, claimed that he always supplied the genuine cola bottles. He said that the police should start a *****down on those shopkeepers involved in the business of spurious drinks.
On the other hand, Rana Taimoor, in an application to the DCO, demanded a probe against the police on the charge of releasing the accused shop owner.
