افتراضي Govt keeps POL prices unchanged for next month

ISLAMABAD: On the eve of Eidul Fitr, the government on Thursday rejected the proposed increase in oil prices by Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) and kept the prices unchanged for next month.

However, the government increased prices of light diesel by Rs5.38 per litre for July 1, 2016. Finance Minister Ishaq Dar an**unced that the government has decided to keep the oil prices unchanged which would cause Rs3 billion loss to the national exchequer.

“In line with the prime minister's policy of providing maximum relief to the public, it has been decided to maintain the prices of petrol, HOBC, high speed diesel and kerosene for the month of July, 2016,” he said. The price of light diesel oil is being increased as per Ogra recommendation.

Ishaq Dar said maintaining POL prices for July is a gift from the government to the people on occasion of Eidul Fitr. For MS (Petrol), the Ogra had proposed an increase of Rs1.93 per litre, jacking it from Rs64.27 to Rs66.20 per litre, but the government decided to keep its price unchanged at Rs64.27 per litre.

For HOBC, Ogra proposed an increase in price by Rs3.53 per litre but the government rejected the proposal and kept the price per litre at Rs72.68 for July. Ogra had also proposed Rs8.62 per litre hike in kerosene oil price but the government rejected the summary and kept prices unchanged at Rs43.25 per litre.

The price of high speed diesel stands at Rs72.52 per litre for June, 2016 and Ogra proposed an increase in price by Rs3.75 per litre but the government rejected the summary by deciding to keep its price at Rs72.52 for July.

The price of light diesel oil has been increased in accordance with the Ogra proposal by jacking it up by Rs5.38 per litre, so the price was fixed at Rs43.35 per litre with effect from July 1, 2016.
