Oscars 2020 poll: Was Parasite the right Best Picture winner?

Parasite has officially made history after winning Best Picture at the Oscars 2020 on Sunday night (February 9).

The South Korean movie beat Joker, The Irishman, 1917 and Once Upon a Time, becoming the first non-English language film to ever win the prestigious award.

But that’s not all. Parasite firmly dominated the Academy Awards this year, scooping an Oscar for Best International Feature Film, Best Director for Bong Joon Ho and Best Original Screenplay as well.

And now we want you to have your say in our poll:

“When I was young and studying cinema, there was a saying that I carved deep into my heart, which is that ‘the most personal is the most creative’,” Bong Joon Ho said during his acceptance speech. “That quote is from our great Martin Scorsese.

“When I was in school, I studied Martin Scorsese’s films. Just to be nominated was a huge honour. I never thought I would win.”

During the speech, the rest of the production team were about to take a turn at the microphone when the organisers at the Dolby Theatre tried to bring the curtain down.

But thanks to a loud protest from the star-studded audience, they were able to finish after the curtain was raised up again.

Parasite is also the first South Korean to ever win Best Picture at the Academy Awards, and only 11 other non-English movies have ever been nominated for the prize.

The movie’s milestone comes after a number of other prestigious awards, including its BAFTA for Best Foreign Film and Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film.

The Oscars 2020 took place on Sunday, February 9 and aired on ABC in the US, or Sky Cinema and NOW TV in the UK.
