KARACHI: Attorney General of Pakistan Anwar Mansoor Khan has said the Lockdown of judicial system by lawyers was illegal, unconstituional and would have negative consequences.
Talking to The News, Anwar Mansoor said the lawyers' fundamental responsibility was to protect law and help the complainants to receive justice through legal proceedings. He said such an act could hurt in two ways i.e. the people who were waiting for justice and it could also support those who use the profession and become obstacles in way of justice.About the original incident, he said lawyers are well aware of the legal system and knew all the legal formalities to handle the situation to get justice. The AGP said it was against justice to create a crisis in judicial system by lawyers for their purpose. It is casting a bad shadow and that was not good. On the other hand, the former president Supreme Court Bar Association, Amanullah Kanrani, said to create hurdle in the judicial system was contempt of court, adding that a division bench under Justice Qazi Faez Esa had given a verdict against strike call or creating hurdles in judicial system by the Pakistan Bar Council, and termed it was illegal. He said in the same case, Justice Esa had given one day sentence to the-then deputy attorney general, adding that enticing for strike was contempt of court because Pakistan Bar Council’s job was to legislate rules and regulations.
