PIC attack: PM Imran Khan?s nephew gets pre-arrest bail

LAHORE: An Anti-terrorism court on Friday granted pre-arrest bail to Prime Minister Imran Khan’s nephew Hassaan Niazi, an accused of attacking the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC), Lahore.
Hassaan Niazi appeared before the court along with his counsel, who implored the court that his client was nominated in a false FIR, adding that his client was not involved in an attack on the PIC. The court, after hearing the arguments, granted bail to Hassaan on submission of surety bonds of Rs200,000.
The court also directed the police to submit a report on the incident. Hassaan was booked by the Shadman police along with more than 200 lawyers in the FIRs registered after an attack of lawyers on the PIC. However, police were unable to arrest him.
Hassaan Niazi, after securing bail from the ATC, held a press conference at the Lahore Press Club. He demanded across-the-board accountability, claiming that he was the first from legal fraternity who expressed regret on the social media over the attack at the PIC. He said he received abuses from all over the world during the past many days for the deed he had not done. “I am answerable to the nation,” he said adding that he was at the PIC with other lawyers as it was a peaceful protest.
Moreover, police had granted permission for the protest, Hassaan added. He said he was at the PIC to participate in a peaceful protest, and he had not foreseen what could have happened there.
While addressing the media, he broke in to tears. “Show me if I incited any one for violence; show me if I was holding a baton; show me any evidence that I was involved in burning the police vehicle and attacking the PIC. “I was targeted and singled out just because I am the nephew of the prime minister.“The media particularly highlighted my face due to which the whole world started hating me,” Hassaan added. He said that prior to the incident, he had approached the Punjab chief minister, law and health miniseries asking them to resolve the issue between the lawyers and doctors. However, they gave him cold shoulder. He said he will give a detailed report of the incident to the prime minister of Pakistan.
