ISLAMABAD: Two Kashmiri young men were killed by Indian forces in a brutal cordon and search operation in the Badgam district of occupied Kashmir on Friday.According to the Kashmir Media Service (KMS), the violent cordon and search operation took place in the Sutsoo Kalan Nowgam area of the district. Earlier, five Indian troops were injured in an attack in the same area. The operation was ongoing as the last reports came in.A police spokesman claimed the youths were militants and were killed in a clash with the troops. These fresh killings raised the number of slain Kashmiris to six since Thursday. The troops had killed four youths during violent cordon and search operations in Shopian and Kupwara districts the other day. In a separate incident, a 24-year-old youth Muzaffar Ahmed Hajam was injured after he was fired upon by unknown gunmen at Midoora in the Tral area of Pulwama district.Meanwhile, the KMS reported that jail authorities of district Islamabad’s prison in occupied Kashmir are denying medical care and proper food to detained Hurriyat leaders and activists. The families and relatives of the detained Hurriyat leaders and activists said in a media interview in Srinagar that the jail has a capacity of 65 inmates but around 200 detainees have been lodged there and they are being denied health and hygiene facilities.“The detainees are not allowed to visit the hospital and when we take medicines for them, they are not allowed inside,” a relative said, adding: “Falling ill inside this jail can prove life-threatening for our loved ones.”He added: “The inmates are kept in pathetic, unhygienic conditions — with a plain disregard to proper living conditions for humans. There has been inordinate delay in their trials, and they are being ill-treated by jail authorities and no one is listening to us.”
