Winter Is Almost Over, So Catch Up On Game Of Thrones
The title is a little misleading, since South Africa is only heading into winter; plus, the other “winter” is coming in April as Game of Thrones airs its final season. That said, it’s nearly all over and we’re feeling sad here. George R. R. Martin’s epic fantasy tale will wrap up in 2019.
 When it was first announced, no one could’ve predicted what a worldwide hit it would become. It pummelled everything in its path as it became one of the most revered series of modern times and cemented itself as a must-watch show for TV fans. Series co-creator David Benioff explained to Variety what he thinks separates Game of Thrones from everything else. “We thought fantasy is the most successful genre in the world. If you look at the huge franchises of the last decade or two, whether it’s Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter, those movies are all built for a younger audience,” he said. “[George R. R. Martin’s] books were so adult, not just in terms of the sexuality and the violence but the themes — the idea that it’s not about the conflict of good and evil.” Undoubtedly, Game of Thrones tore up the playbook as it made its own rules. For one, no one expected an R-rated series to pull in the outlandish numbers it did. The programme never shied away from sex, violence, or strong language; instead, it embraced all its vices to deliver a full carousel of decadence. The thing is, it isn’t all done for shock or cheap value, as it serves the purpose of showcasing an authentic Westeros, with all its warts and bad breath.  Two, unlike other popular shows where you can predict all the twists, Game of Thrones keeps you guessing. No one knows how it’ll end or who’ll be left standing by the last episode. In fact, no cast member is safe, and your favourite could bite the dust at any given moment. Lest we forget, “The Rains of Castamere”, better known as “The Red Wedding”, is one of the most traumatic episodes in TV history and threw the internet into disarray. Kit Harington, who portrays Jon Snow on the series, revealed to Time that even the actors aren’t given the full scope of the story and also debate what will happen next among themselves. “So many theories. As a group of people, we do theorise a lot; long hours in the green room. I am so excited to receive [the] scripts, because I genuinely have no idea,” he said.
