We?re currently looking at making the move to the countryside and have seen a property we like- it has 6 acres, 6stables, decent arena, lunging pen and hard standing areas, all in good condition. I?d love to get back into eventing again after a very long time away, but with a small child and a 50hr work week, time is very tight. I know a few people who are starting to establish themselves as professional eventers/SJers and I wondered if a mutually beneficial arrangement could be made. I was thinking of offering one of them 5 of the stables and full use of facilites in exchange for treating my horse as one of their competition liveries- so doing the daily care/chores (although I imagine I?d actually do that myself mostly) and training/keeping it fit. It Would allow me to benefit from their skills, and they Would have a decent yard free of charge. Is this a mad idea? Would it seem like I was massively taking advantage? Or is it a good opportunity for both parties? I can?t decide!
