I have a new horse for a few months now who's settled in really well, looks wrll, rides nicely and behaves generally like a saint. He's a good doer, in at night, out on grass for approx 8 hours, in light but regular work (hacking, schooling, jumping, low level dressage and hunter trials). Currently fed dampened honey chop light and healthy and added salt. Wasn't fed a balancer in previous home but was on comp mix and Alfa a chaff molasses free, owner cut it all out before he came to me as he's be having more turnout and not the workload she had him doing and as a rider she liked more spark. My question is, should I be adding a balancer or supplements? I've purposefully not rushed into adding anything to his diet but the basics of forage, forage and more forage, so I could identify any issues that might need addressing rather than feeding a broad spectrum supplement that wasn't needed. Like I said, he looks good and feels good so I'm clueless as to what to do for the best. Can anyone make any suggestions?
