51 newly elected senators take oath, PML-N finalises Raja Zafarul Haq for chairman
  Screen grab Geo News.ISLAMABAD: Amid much hyped over election of Senate chairman and his deputy 51 newly elected senators took oath of the office Monday. Ishaq Dar could not attend today?s session as he is in London due to health reasons. Sardar Yaqoob Nasar of PML-N, who was nominated by President Mamnoon Hussain as presiding officer, chaired the session and took oath from the newly elected members of the upper house, followed by signing of the roll of members.  PML-N mulls Raja Zafarul Haq as Chairman Senate PML-N is now mulling to nominate Raja Zafarul Haq as Chairman Senate after Nawaz Sharif?s offer for a joint candidate was shot down by Asif Zardari.  As per details, a special Senate session began at 10:00am today where 51 newly-elected members took oath, after that the 104-member Senate would elect its new chairman and deputy chairman in another session scheduled for 04:00pm. Before this, nomination papers would be received from the candidates. Pakistan People?s Party (PPP), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and other opposition groups have announced their support for Sadiq Sanjrani for the chairmanship and Saleem Mandviwala for deputy chairmanship. As far as PML-N is concerned, its Quaid Nawaz Sharif will announce the final candidates today before the election. PML-N and its allied parties reached a consensus that the deputy chairman would be from allies and his name would also be announced before the election. PML-N?s Raja Zafarul Haq Mir has reportedly been finalized for the top office. It is pertinent to note that outgoing chairman Senate Raza Rabbani was elected unopposed. As per constitutional and electoral provisions, half of the senators retire every three years.
