KARACHI: A man nominated in cases of fraud and cheating ran away from the court?s premises with the help of some lawyers after a local court rejected his plea seeking a bail before arrest.
Muhammad Afzal had appeared before the Additional District and Sessions Judge (South) to have his interim bail confirmed. The court after hearing the arguments tendered by the state attorney, Khair Muhammad Khattak, rejected the plea and ordered to arrest Afzal. The police alleged that as they tried to arrest Afzal, some lawyers intervened and began questioning the police?s authority to arrest the accused, who was a client of one of the lawyers. The escapee is facing several cases lodged with the Preedy police station. A number of prisoners, or suspects involved in different cases have made a run for it from the court premises after their bail pleas are rejected. A week ago, a co-accused in the Zafir Zuber murder case, Junaid Shah, had also escaped from the court after rejection of his interim bail plea. He was later arrested by the police from an area within the remit of the Risala police station. The Judicial Magistrate (East) granted a two-day physical remand of a guesthouse owner, Hamoodur Rehman, alleged to have stolen Rs1.5m in cash as well as valuables from guests who would stay at the motel. The accused brother, Tanzeelur Rehman, is already under detention and is facing a dozen of similar robbery cases.
