Take action even if my mills weigh less: Shahbaz

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Friday said cases would be registered and the sugar mills owner arrested if any complaint was received about deduction in the weight of sugarcane. action should be taken even if his own sugar mills was involved in the practice, he added.
Shahbaz was presiding over a meeting from Madina through the video link to consider the recommendations of the special committee set up to solve the problems of sugarcane growers. It also reviewed the steps taken to provide relief to them.
The chief minister said sustained action should be continued against the elements that had set up illegal weighbridges. The provincial ministers concerned and the administrative secretaries should remain available in the field to ensure timely solution to the growers? problems, he added.
He said no leniency would be shown to the sugar mills owners going against the interests of the farming community. The management of sugar mills should realise that protection of interests of the farmers would be ensured at every cost, the chief minister warned.
?My sympathies are with the farmers and protection of their interests is my duty which I am committed to fulfil,? he added.
He reiterated that the elements involved in incurring financial losses to the farmers would not be tolerated.
Separately, Shahbaz, chairing another meeting, directed to constitute a special committee to monitor the progress on different development projects through field-visits.
The meeting reviewed progress on public welfare projects under the Annual Development Program (ADP).
The chief minister ordered the departments should ensure accurate and timely fund utilisation, adding that transparency, speed and quality of work were the hallmarks of Punjab government.
He said Punjab government had presented the largest development budget in the province?s history, which was a guarantor to durable progress of the people as well as speedy progress.Meanwhile, the chief minister offered the Friday prayers in Masjid-e-Nabwi and visited Roza-e-Rasool (PBUH). Earlier, he offered prayers in Masjid-e-Nabwi late at night.
