Trump complicated regional situation: Shahbaz
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Thursday condemned US President Donald Trump?s decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, saying it had deeply hurt the religious sentiments of 1.5 billion Muslims. In a statement, he said, ?Instead of advancing the peace process, the US move has dealt the severest blow to the peace efforts,? and added that the Palestinians had been deceived yet again. ?Instead of taking steps to reignite peace process, the United States under President Trump has complicated the regional situation that has graver implications for the world peace in general and the stability and peace of Middle East in particular,? Shahbaz noted.
?The decision of the Trump Administration has reinforced the Palestinians? lack of trust in the honesty of Washington as a trusted and fair-minded peace broker,? said the chief minister. ?When one of the parties to the decades-old conflict demonstrates a massive no-confidence and feels to have been stabbed in the back, there is no way a peace process can bear fruit,? he stressed. Shahbaz said, ?With this reckless and irresponsible US policy reversal, the goal of finding a two-state solution has become even more distant. The world has rightly been outraged by the action of the Trump administration whose understanding of history is fickle and self-serving.? He endorsed Turkish President Erdogan?s comment wherein he had said that by recognising Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, the US had crossed the red-line for Muslims. ?The world can ill-afford such narrow-minded policies that seem to insult the intelligence of the people,? the statement read. Separately, the chief minister paid a surprise visit to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Raiwind without any protocol and visited different sections of the facility. He also inquired the patients and their attendants about the services being provided at the hospital and took notice over the over the complaint of a patient in emergency about not providing free medicines. He issued orders on some other complaints as well and got them addressed immediately. The chief minister said steps should be made to functionalise the dental and ENT clinics without any delay. He expressed his displeasure over the presence of outdated heaters in the wards and ordered provision of new immediately.
