The market is open on August 17 to 18, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. TienDA is a venue for farmers to earn more and for consumers to be able to access fresh products at farm gate prices, Agriculture Undersecretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat told reporters. "The objective of the tienda is, first, for farmers to earn more. If you noticed, pag pumupunta ka ng mga probinsiya, ang mura mura ng mga prutas, ang mura mura ng mga gulay, tapos pagdating mo dito ang mahal mahal," Puyat said. "So dalawa ang objective para lahat ng kita pumunta sa farmers pero, at the same time, affordable siya for the consumers. Kasi, minsan, 'pag tinanggal mo lahat ng mga layers, minsan five to eight ang middlemen. Kung tanggalin mo sila mas mura talaga," she added. TienDA was originally launched on July 28 at the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI), with 86 sellers joining the event. "Now we have 90 from Pangasinan, Isabela, may Zamboanga, North Cotabato, South Cotabato, Davao, from all over," Puyat said. The farmers were encouraged to bring commodities not easily available in Metro Manila. "Sabi namin ang idala niyo dito 'yung wala sa Manila," she said. ? VDS, GMA News
