JAMMU: New Delhi was mulling the option of blocking 100,000 million acre feet of water from River Ravi flowing into Pakistan, reported foreign media.It is also planning to allow the states of Held Kashmir and Punjab to share the water equally and has decided to share burden of occupied territory by constructing barrage and remaining part of Ranjit Sagar Dam. The media report quoting sources said the Indian government had agreed to fully fund the construction of the barrage and remaining part of dam at Ranjit Sagar, located in Gurdaspur district, constructed on the canal from Shahpur Kandi Barrage to Madhopur Headworks, downstream of the existing Ranjit Sagar Dam. The sources said New Delhi took the step of blocking 100,000 million acre feet water every year under the Indus water Treaty (IWT). “The water will be shared equally by Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab,” they said, adding the water would be utilised in the barrage and dam and irrigation of 100,500 acre Kandi belt of Kathua and Samba districts of Jammu region.
