Pakistan ready for talks with India on Kashmir

WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Jalil Abbas Jilani met Ambassador Richard Olson, the US Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, at the State Department and handed over documentary Evidence to him on Indian troops’ atrocities in the Indian Held Kashmir (IHK).

The Evidence and dossier contain details of human rights violations by the Indian forces in IHK. Ambassador Jilani stressed during the meeting that grant of right to self-determination was pledged by the UN to Kashmiris, therefore, India can**t deny it.

The ambassador urged the international community, especially the United States, to take **te of the inhuman and degrading treatment being meted out to the in**cent Kashmiris, including women and children. He underlined that the international community must ensure that India as a member of the United Nations gives access to international human rights and humanitarian organisations to IHK besides urging India for cessation of state terrorism against the people of Kashmir.

“Pakistan will continue to extend moral and diplomatic support to Kashmiris,” he reiterated. — OnlineAPP adds from Islamabad: Pakistan’s High Commissioner to India Abdul Basit has called for serious and sustained diplomacy and result-oriented engagement with India on Kashmir to pave the way for establishing durable peace and prosperity that would help eliminate poverty from the two countries.

In an interview with the Indian Express, Abdul Basit said Pakistan did **t see dialogue as a favour by one country to a**ther.“Dialogue is in our mutual interest. If India is ready, Pakistan will be willing; if India is **t ready then we can always wait for India to make up its mind,” he said.

The HC said both the countries need to work for peace and prosperity and recalled the Indian premier very rightly said in his address in Kerala we need to fight against poverty.“If we were to fight against poverty, I think we need to work together.”In the interview, the high commissioner spoke about the surgical strike, the derailed dialogue process, the postponement of Saarc Summit and future of Pakistan-India relations.
