KARACHI: Holders Peshawar romped to their fourth straight win when they conquered Lahore Blues by six wickets in their fourth round outing of the National T20 Cup 2016 at Pindi Stadium in Rawalpindi on Friday.
International all-rounder Anwar Ali (3-28) and skipper Zohaib Khan (2-20) enabled Peshawar to restrict Lahore Blues to 137-7. Rafatullah Mohmand (45*) took his side to the target comfortably with ten balls to spare after losing four wickets. This was the third loss for Lahore Blues in four matches. Anwar Ali created *****s in Lahore Blues batting when he ******* Nauman Anwar (9) and Mohammad Ikhlaq (0) in one over. He also ran out stand-in skipper Nasir Jamshed (11) to leave them struggling at 26-3 in 4.5 overs. Left-handed batsman Naved Yasin (20) and Hafiz Saad Nasim (18) tried to consolidate the innings. They shared 34 off 33 balls for the fourth wicket association before left-arm spinner Zohaib Khan sent both of them back to the pavilion in quick succession. Naved struck two fours from 22 balls. Saad, who has played three One-day Internationals and same number of T20 Internationals, also hammered two fours from 22 deliveries. After losing Reza Ali Dar (11), in the meantime, Agha Salman (32*) and Fahim Ashraf (22) put on a rapid 53 off 31 balls for the seventh wicket to help Lahore Blues post a respectable total. Salman smacked two fours and a six in his unbeaten 27-ball k**ck. Fahim banged two fours and a six in his 13-ball fire-work. Peshawar were at one stage reduced to 53-3 in 7.3 overs. Israrullah (11), Fakhar Zaman (10) and Pakistan’s mighty hitter Sohaib Maqsood (20) fell cheaply. Sohaib hammered two sixes and one four from 14 balls. Rafatullah and Test cricketer Iftikhar Ahmed (26) batted with positive approach, sharing 57 off 36 balls to put Peshawar within sight of victory. Spinner Zafar Gohar gave a breakthrough to Lahore Blues when he dismissed Iftikhar, who struck three fours from 26 balls. Rafat and Zohaib (23*) then added 35 for the fifth wicket unbroken stand to complete the win. Rafat smashed two sixes and as many fours from 38 balls. Zohaib, who hit the winning four over the keeper’s head, hit one six and two fours from 16 balls. Zafar was the pick of the bowlers with 2-24. Zohaib was declared the man-of-the-match for his fine all-round show. The win took Pesahwar to eight points at the summit. On Thursday night International left-hander Umar Amin slammed unbeaten 76 off 50 balls as Rawalpindi produced their second win from three games when they overpowered Islamabad by five wickets. Amin hammered four sixes and five fours to power Rawalpindi to 175-run target with six balls to spare. In the last two overs, the hosts needed 17 to win. Amin scored 15 runs in Shahid Afridi’s over before they got their last two runs in the shape of wides by Test seamer Junaid Khan. At one stage, Rawalpindi were 64-4 in 8.4 overs, but Amin added 94 runs off 56 balls for the fifth wicket with Hammad Azam (34), who hit three fours and a six from 25 balls. Amin added 40 off 31 balls for the third wicket with Mukhtar Ahmed, who hammered 27-ball 40 with six fours and a six. Spinner Mohammad Irfan Junior got 3-35 from four overs. Imam-ul-Haq (54) and Adil Amin (44) scored 74 off 58 balls for the third wicket to catapult Islamabad to 174-5. Imam struck six fours from 45 balls. Adil smacked three sixes and two fours from 32 deliveries. Afridi, playing his first game of the tournament, hit 13-ball 26 **t out, striking two sixes and one four. Left-arm spinner Zulfiqar Babar captured 2-17. Amin was adjudged the man-of-the-match. There will be ** match on Saturday (today) and Sunday.
